Welcome to my website! I am L. E. Dudley (Laurie), a North Carolina native, children's writer, and the author of the heartwarming junior novel series, The Unicorn Shore. I am also the proud wife of a career Army man, and we have lived all over the world with our three children.

Here you'll find information about my books and latest projects, as well a bi-weekly blog, which covers topics relevant to children's and adult literacy, the neuroscience of learning and reading, and the impact of modern technology on our brains and lives.

I believe books, especially fiction, have great power in helping children navigate challenging situations, and I have seen this firsthand in my own children, who have experienced both the loss of friendships and the instability that often comes with military life.

I am passionate about raising kids with a love for reading, as well as the important role books have in strengthening the loving bond between child and caregiver. No matter what is happening in a child's world, reading together creates stability and a sense of connection.

Bringing my own fantastical worlds to life to share with children everywhere has been a lifelong dream.

I live wherever the Army has currently sent our family, along with our little doodle dog, Lily, and smooshy-face black cat, Pepper. I have a degree in journalism and a master's degree in trauma counseling. After completing my master's, I did 2 years of postgraduate study in neuroscience with a focus on neuroplasticity and Polyvagal Theory. I am deeply interested in how reading can calm the brain's stress response while fostering new healthy neural pathways that help children process and recover from traumatic experiences.
