About
The Unicorn Shore: The Ring of Mischief (A Junior Novel)
Book Three in a Magical Junior Novel Series for Young Readers aged 6-9. (Can be read as part of the series or as a standalone)
One enchanted ring. Endless mischief.
Return to the magical Unicorn Shore in the third adventure of the series, as nine-year-old Marigold fulfills her promise by bringing her little sister, Sophie, to celebrate Eclipse’s coronation. At the castle, everyone gathers to cheer the new king when a powerful tremor cracks open a hidden crystal cavern in the hills nearby. Marigold and the unicorns dash off to investigate, but Sophie is told to stay behind.
Determined to prove she’s more than a tagalong, Sophie teams up with Rose, a daring young Pegasus who’s tired of being left out. The pair sneak into the cavern and discover a mysterious ring that hums with strange energy. Back at the castle, they hide it, unaware that it holds Trickster Magic.
Tiny Stardust Sprites spring loose from the enchanted ring. They play pranks, cause mischief throughout the castle, and turn the coronation celebrations into chaos.
Can Sophie and Rose capture the sprites, uncover the ring’s secrets, and stop the Trickster Magic before it escapes the castle and plunges the entire Unicorn Realm into mayhem?
A Note to Parents: The Unicorn Shore: The Ring of Mischief is a junior novel for readers aged 6–9. It features small black-and-white, pencil-drawn chapter header illustrations only. This is intentionally designed to create a gentle visual anchor that complements the story to support advancing readers as they transition from heavily illustrated early chapter books to text-only novels.
Junior novels offer an ideal next step up from early chapter books. They are mostly text-based stories that challenge young readers with richer vocabulary and longer narratives, helping to develop their reading skills and attention span. With a Lexile range of approximately 360L to 400L, The Unicorn Shore series also supports reluctant older elementary readers by offering a longer story with a more accessible Lexile range.
Rooted in themes of courage, teamwork, sisterhood, forgiveness, and the contrast between light and shadow, this series is well suited for strong 1st-grade readers, as well as on-level 2nd and 3rd graders. If your young reader still relies heavily on illustrations for context and pacing, this would be an excellent book to read aloud together.
